Terrain and Conditions

The 4 day route that the group of walkers traverse during this fundraising event, consists of various types of terrain. Along the shores of the Atlantic ocean near Agulhas National Park, there are sections of gravel road, soft and sandy jeep tracks and hard fynbos trail paths. The route also includes long stretches of beautiful white beaches with wet, hard sand during low tide at Brandfontein, Jessie’s Bay and Pearly Beach. Another surface the walkers cross is smooth pebbles and shingle along the route, which requires mindful walking and balance.

The Walk is planned at the end of the summer season to avoid extremely hot conditions in favour for the milder days of March along the southern Cape coast. Weather, however, remains an unpredictable force and walkers should be prepared for any type of conditions. In the past, the ladies have experienced rain, very strong winds, mist and extreme heat on occasion. Therefore it is necessary to plan ahead of time and consult with experienced walkers regarding preparations to make one’s walk as pleasant as possible.
